Frosty Freeze

frosty-freeze

Friday morning while I was waiting for my family to show up I went outside in the snow with my dogs to play catch and found a frosty world awaiting us.  After we were done playing catch (it only took Buster about five minutes and he wanted to go back inside and good old Buddy lost one of the balls in the snow) I got my camera and snapped a few shots.

I’m still playing with the Lensbaby and having lots of fun with it.  While my son was here, I took my camera out to document him doing the dishes, but he is a very uncooperative subject – no photos.

Beauty in a drop of water

branch-water-drop-2

Today is Thanksgiving, a day of giving thanks.  I am thankful today for N & H and E.  I am thankful for my mom (and I’m not sure how I forgot her – thanks, Mom).  I am thankful for Buddy and Buster…most days.  (I’m kidding – every day!!)  I am thankful for a roof over my head, groceries in the pantry, and a good job.   I’m thankful for my camera, which has allowed me to get to know quite a few wonderful people through their comments (although none in person…yet).  I’m also thankful for the camera because it has allowed me to find beauty in simple things, such as this drop of water.  It has opened my eyes to the world around me, be it my backyard, my place of employment or places where I get to visit.  There is beauty everywhere, if we are just willing to open our eyes and minds to it.

I’m wishing you a day of beauty and thanksgiving (and safe travel) with your family, friends, pets, or even a complete stranger…Happy Thanksgiving.

Late night

It was a late night last night.  I went to see one of my sons who had been home this past weekend.  When he left, he left behind his cell phone charger.  Kids these days don’t have land lines and his cell phone was dead so he was without phone.  Dutiful mom that I am, I took his charger to him (since I forgot to mail it to him).  It was a good excuse to eat at the restraunt where he is executive chef.  His first official menu went into effect on Wednesday so I had to check it out.  Excellent!!  The place was packed so I sat at the bar.  Seated next to me was one of the regulars and we had a nice chat.  He had nice things to say about my son.  That’s always good to hear!  None of this has anything to do with straw.

It’s a sunny day

I went to see one of my sons yesterday and he has a couple small patches of sunflowers growing.  They are a little bit behind because of the cooler weather there, so these probably will end up not producing anything.  You can see the start of the seeds, but just not enough time to finish them out.

A little transplanting going on

When I first moved into my current home, a friend gave me a few day lilies that she had thinned out from her mom’s flower beds.  Well, a couple of weekends ago my son and his girlfriend were home helping me with some landscaping and we dug up the day lilies.  What had started out a few years ago as a small patch of day lilies, turned into enough that when transplanted became three different areas, two the size of the original area and one area twice the size.  It was a LOT of day lilies, let me tell you!!  They’ve been moved to the back yard where they will provide some much needed color.  Thanks, Toni!  It is definitely the gift that keeps on giving…(Yes, my friend’s name is Toni, too.  And we have the same birthday – just a few years apart.  Okay, more than a few years, but who’s counting.)
